Discover 24’s Unbeatable Stain Removal Secrets

Most of us have a refined go-to technique for life’s unfortunate spillages. It goes something this this:

  • PANIC

  • Grab a bowl of hot water and whatever soap-like products are hanging around the kitchen sink

  • Furiously rub this makeshift cocktail into the fibers of the effected carpet or upholstery until it changes colour.

  • Learn how to live with the daily reminder of last month’s Deliveroo disappointments on your sofa cushions.

Luckily here at 24 we have another way. Find out just how to get rid of these unavoidable mishaps when they crop up.

1.        Wine

Coming in at number one. The most common of all spillages and the perfect way to dampen any celebration. Red wine has a particularly notorious reputation for prematurely ending an evening.

Follow these simple steps to keep your sofa spotless and your carpet looking fresh:

  • Blot the wine. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot up as much red wine as possible.

  • Add Club Soda - Pour a little club soda at a time onto the red wine stain on the carpet and continue blotting. Continue blotting until no more wine can be removed.

  • Let it marinate - Pour our more club soda over the stain and leave it overnight.

  • Rince and Repeat.

2.        Pet Mishaps

Here at 24 Cleaning Services, we love our furry friends, but we also recognize that they tend not to be too good at cleaning up after themselves. There is nothing like coming home after a long day of work to a hero’s welcome, complete with a wagging tail, sloppy wet kisses and a present in the middle of the room.

Grab some gloves and follow these steps:

  • ACT FAST. The quicker you are to act the more chance you have to eliminate bad

  • odors and the quicker your pooch will realize your prefer flowers.

  • Grab a clean cloth or paper towel and blot up as much of the stain as possible

  • As an alternative use this household combination, dish soap, vinegar, and water.

  • Soak overnight for tough stains.

(Tip: Use enzyme cleaners to break down the protein compounds.

Avoid using ammonia-based products as they can often worsen the situation.)

3.        Grass Stains

There is nothing like the great outdoors! There is nothing worse than seeing it smudged across your accent wall after a busy summer’s day.  Even if you are a ‘shoes off at the door’ kind of household somehow those sneaky green stains manage to find their way in.

Grass stains are particularly tough as grass contains chlorophyll, a natural green pigment, which acts like a dye.

Follow these steps:

  • Pre- treat the affected area with baking powder, lemon juice and club soda.

  • Rinse the area with cold water

  • Apply solution and leave to soak

  • Rinse the area again with cold water

  • Blot the area to remove excess moisture

  • You guessed it, Blot it. Blot the stain with a clean cloth or paper towel.

  • Use a combination of Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, dish soap and cold water.

5.      COFFEE

Saving the worst for last – Coffee. This, the most devastating of all spillages, usually occurring first thing in the morning when you’re running late and are least prepared to see to the mess. Not only have you wasted your liquid fuel for the day but now you have an ugly dark stain on your otherwise beautifully white carpet.

Here’s what to do.

This works best on fresh spills but can also tackle dried stains.

  • Place paper towels on top of the spillages to soak the wicked nectar away from fibres of the carpet.

  •    Use cold water to dilute the stain (DO NOT add hot water to an already hot mess)

  • Mix 1 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 teaspoon dish soap and stir well with a spoon.

  • Use a cloth to blot the mixture into the affected area

  • Leave for a minimum of 10 minutes.

  • Rinse well with a damp cloth

  • Blot dry.

(Tip: It is best to test on a small area first to ensure this mixture doesn’t stain your carpet even further. This mixed doesn’t agree with all carpet types)
